specific membergroup + specific theme
« on: July 20, 2010, 12:18:25 AM »
Mr. T and i were discussing this earlier and he seemed to think it would be quite easy and would only take a couple days to work out, so i though this would be a good opportunity for everyone to learn something, myself included, so i posted it in the coding corner rather than simply making it a request.

The idea is to create a new membergroup, and have a specific theme set aside just for the group.

background for the need:

my PC clan split up. some started playing xbox, some PS3. I am on xbox, so i redid the clan site in an xbox type theme and characteristics. In an effort to bring the PS3 guys back, i want to have a group made up for them so that when they join, i can assign them to that group, and they would have a different theme, and see only the PS3 boards and the clan boards. The board visibility is already added into the membergroup creation, it only lacks the theme assignment.

not being a php coder myself, i can only guess that that option could be easily added just by editing whatever file handles the membergroup creation. add the actual option and drop-down box for the forum, code a routine to check all available themes, output to a string and add to the drop-down, and after that i don't what you would do.

Am i on the right track though?

PS- someone on simplemachines said this is near impossible. can't wait for Mr. T to prove them wrong.  :o

Question:

Are these themes going to be used by users outside of these membergroups?

no. i always choose a theme and then restrict everyone to that 1 theme because all the mods don't work with all the themes. So everyone will use the main theme until i assign them to the PS3 membergroup, then they will have a different theme.

Ok, no problem. Just as a heads up though I have been swamped with paid work over the past two days so this has to be back burner for a week or so.
